HUMANYZE

Founders: Ben Waber & Sandy Pentland
Headquarters: Boston, MA
Year Founded: 2011
Year Romulus Invested: 2013

A spin-out of the MIT Media Lab, Humanyze helps companies unlock the power of their people. Using artificial intelligence-powered tools, Humanyze harnesses the power of people analytics, offering organizations insights into how their people collaborate physically and digitally. By employing Humanyze technology, companies can view anonymized data on their teams’ interactivity, and employees can view private, personalized dashboards that help them take ownership of their careers.

The Humanyze-Romulus story:

“I was scanning my Twitter feed when I stumbled upon a fascinating article about ‘people analytics.’ It was a profile of Sociometric Solutions, as Humanyze was then known,” says Krishna.  “As it happened, that company had been founded in the same MIT lab as Ginger.io, another company in our portfolio.” We reached out to Ben, and a summer lunch near the Boston Common led to Krishna’s reading Ben’s book, People Analytics, which in turn led to a partnership that has thrived over the past few years.

Romulus value in action: Authentic. Although Humanyze’s edge is its deep technology spun out of MIT, its core is delivering value to individuals in a very authentic manner. The company analyzes human beings’ data without forcing them to relinquish their humanity, and that focus also permeates the company’s internal operations.
